Travel report in the Norwegian Journal of Surgery
Our travel report from the last surgical training camp in Ghana was just published in the Norwegian journal of Surgery. You can read it below (in Norwegian) and online through this link: https://issuu.com/coxbox/docs/kirurgen_2-2025

A brief summary in English:
Ghana is a low-to-middle-income country in West Africa with 34 million inhabitants. There are many challenges relating to poverty and infrastructure, and it is often hard for patients to get timely surgical care. Two thirds of inguinal hernia patients present with scrotal hernias, and most are operated in an emergency setting. This was our second training camp at Holy Family Hospital, Berekum. HFH is a district hospital serving a catchment area of 240.000 people, with one surgeon, and 2-3 surgical residents. During this week, we trained 3 residents, and operated on 50 patients with a total of 56 inguinal hernias. One of the residents was from a neighbouring smaller hospital. At the end of the week, they were all able to perform the procedure independently! All patients were discharged the next day. A great success.
